Despite uncertain economic times, creative industries continue to prosper, right across the globe. With graduates earning (on average) up to 47% more than those educated to A-level, demand for creative courses is rising. The Interactive Design Institute, the UK’s leading provider of online qualifications in art and design, is helping to fulfil that need. But how did we enable them to tackle such a hugely competitive marketplace?
The IDI has much to offer talented students. Partnering with Hertfordshire University, their courses range from Graphic Design, Illustration and Interior & Spatial Design, to Photography, Interactive Media Design and Product Design. They wanted a site that was aimed at student recruitment; one that made it easy for a diversity of user groups to find important information.
Web Foundry designed, built and implemented a large system that could handle over 500 pages of content. We provided SEO on all key pages, and made the site incredibly intuitive and simple to use.
Features included a gallery of work and video testimonials by students, as well as a calendar countdown module which told users how many days there were left until the next enrolment. Students could look for information on particular courses, using keyword searches such as name, level, study mode or subject area. There was also the chance to sign up for email bulletins, as addresses automatically populated an email marketing list.
Technically speaking...
The site was built using the latest version of Joomla CMS. A bespoke custom template, together with many Joomla extensions, were developed for the site. For instance, the application form integrated with Salesforce CRM, so that all data that was entered by a student was passed to IDI’s back office sales team to follow up. The form also linked in with the IDI Study site (also featured in this section) so when students enrolled, all personal data was already present and accurate in the learning management system.
And the results?
We’ve been working with the IDI for a number of years now, helping them develop their site, maximise their presence and create a real wow factor in the marketplace. Latest figures show that the site is very active and that enrolment figures increased by an amazing 305% between 2009 and 2011.
